• Hedera Hashgraph will reset their mirror and consensus node test networks every quarter, starting January 26th, 2021.
• The reset will start at 17:00 UTC and is estimated to take approximately 120 minutes, during which time the Hedera testnet will be offline.
• Developers are urged to keep track of the reset dates in order to keep their data and applications up to date.

Hedera Hashgraph, a blockchain-based smart contract platform for developing and deploying scalable dApps, is announcing changes to its testnet environments. In order to ensure that developers are able to test out their applications in a safe and secure environment, Hedera has decided to perform a full reset of their testnet environment every quarter.

Beginning on January 26th, 2021, the reset will be conducted at 17:00 UTC and is expected to last approximately 120 minutes. During this time, the Hedera testnet will be offline, so developers should plan accordingly. Once the reset is complete, developers will need to recreate their accounts, tokens, contracts, and other data. Fortunately, developers will not need to create new public and private keys, as their existing ones will remain unchanged.

This reset will also mean that developers will not be able to access state data as beamed from test network consensus nodes. This means that developers who created accounts prior to the reset will not be able to query data or check their transaction history. However, developers using the testnet mirror node will still have access to their data two weeks after the reset before it is completely purged.

Hedera urges developers to keep track of the reset dates in order to keep their applications up to date and their data secure. The reset dates for the following quarters are April 27th, July 27th, and October 26th. This update allows developers to develop and test applications in a safe and secure environment and allows Hedera Hashgraph to ensure the security of its testnet environment.
